While I prefer the watch without the date magnifier for actually reading the date, I can’t quite get used to a Datejust without the Cyclops on the crystal. The Rolex movement is designed to have the date inset quite a bit on the dial, so there's room for the cyclops. It looks out of whack with the date so far towards the middle and no cyclops. FWIW, that's why the original SeaDwellers had a smaller dial than the Submariner Dates.

To me, a Datejust has to have a touch of bling to it, and I think the cyclops adds just enough. Even if it's the less blingy smooth bezel, oyster bracelet Datejust, the cyclops adds a bit of reflection to the crystal, and a bit of character to the watch.
